CTM Potters Kilns
After many years working along with Colin at CTM Supplies – supplying him with metal oxides, the brother and sister team of Graeme and Angela helped him to retire in 2006 and relaunched the business as CTM Potters Supplies with branches in Doncaster and Exeter. Fortunately Louise, Manager of Exeter branch, stayed with the new company when it was formed, and she has continued to push us to expand the range of products that we offer. She has also helped us to specialise in the manufacture of the CONTEM ranges and in supplying materials and tools to other potters outlets throughout the UK and Ireland, helping us all to stabilise the cost of materials and keep low the retail prices for all potters in the UK. In everything we do at CTM we look to keep prices low and quality high, and to ensure that it is the right product for the customer especially for larger purchases such as kilns and wheels. Our favourite phone calls from new customers start with “my friend said I should talk to you” or “my friend bought a kiln from you and I want the same one”.
Angela has a long history of managing national retail and distribution businesses; whilst Graeme could probably write a glass recipe before he could walk, he studied for his MSc in Glass Technology at Sheffield and was made a Fellow of the Society of Glass Technology in 2008. The company does still supply the handmade glass industry – mainly the blowers – alongside the ceramic customers through Simba Materials Ltd T/A Glassworks Services.

How We Work
We believe that buying a kiln or wheel or other equipment is a big decision and that you get all of your questions answered (and those of your electrician). We want you to make the right decision – there are no stupid questions. There is no charge for the advice and due to bringing in many kilns and wheels at a time and us passing this freight savings on to you – you can also save money.
If you need advice about buying a potters’ wheel, or a Rohde or Nabertherm or Kilncare kiln, please give us a call – we can have a proper chat about ampage needs, internal height and width options, controllers, delivery, initial firing routines – we won’t rush you as it is a big decision to make – we probably would have several talks. If we are busy with a call-in customer we will ring you back to talk through everything..
We usually have plug in kilns from Rohde, Nabertherm and Kilncare kilns on display and usually Rohde, Bailey, Shimpo and Frema potters wheels in stock for you to see the build quality, but please check before coming to see us. At our main warehouse in Doncaster we often have 20-30 kilns in stock. .
Here are some of the team’s dogs that you might see if you visit us –
Bailey, Bobby, Dixie, Hazel, Maggie, Jasmine, Peppa, Maggie, Ollie, Buddy, Strider, Milo and Shaun
Our sister website has information on everything else that we stock – go to www.ctmpotterssupplies.co.uk. You can get pretty much anything you need for pottery making from CTM and by buying in bulk we aim to have the most competitive of prices. We probably have the UK’s most cost effective stock of metal oxides and raw materials, as well as glaze frits, plasters, polishing powders etc.
You can call in to see us and browse through hundreds of tools, brushes, tile cutters, sponges, mud tools, safety wear, buckets, refractory props, shelves etc etc….as well as hundreds of glazes, stains, underglazes, basic glazes, UG pencils – and test tiles! “Aladins Cave” is a regular customer comment.
In stock are approximately eighty of the Valentine and Earthstone range of clays. We also can deliver pallet lots of Valentine and Earthstone clays, and pallet lots of clay from Potclays.
CTM Potters Supplies operates showrooms / sales counters in Doncaster and in Exeter, and we are happy for you to come and browse between 9:30am to 4:30pm Monday to Thursday, 4pm on Fridays (excluding bank holidays) and 9am to 2pm on the first Saturday in each month – see CONTACT US for our locations and Xmas opening hours.
To reduce complications, and so that we have a buying history to search through (such as when you want to know which glaze you had before etc), we do recommend that you buy from one site – if we are out of stock at one site we do despatch from the other so you do not need to ring both.
If you can’t pop in we can despatch to you by post, courier or pallet – whichever works out the most cost-effective or best for you – see ordering for more details.
