Understanding Rohde controller options

The standard Rohde controller is the ST310 controller made by Stafford Controllers of Stoke on Trent. It has 32 program slots and every program can have 2 heating ramp, a soak, a controlled cooling and then a natural cooling. This is sufficient to have a gentle firing if thought out carefully.

 

The optional ST411 controller has 32 program slots and every program can have up to 32 heating or controlled cooling ramps, each ramp can have its own soak. This means that you can make a very gentle stepped program including controlled cooling to help prevent pin holing, as well as be able to do crystal forming glazes and even glass fusing. Also, good for larger kilns that might need help eliminating the effect of cooler areas / heat rising.

 

Both the ST310 and ST411 controllers are Wifi capable (subject to being close enough to your router) and can then attach to the Rohde App for monitoring and recording of information.

 

There are other controllers available for Front Loading kiln for zone control and multiple events (such as opening and shutting vents) :-

  • ST612 – 1 zone / 2 events
  • ST621 – 2 zones / 1 event
  • ST630 – 3 zones – comes with the Multiple Zone Control Combination Option
  • ST632 – 3 zones / 2 events

 

CTM can help with settings in the controller so that you can see power usage, suggested program profiles for gentle firing rates and also for 13 amp kilns, and also hold your hand from a distance with programming the controller.
